Krista’s Rainforest Sanctuary

A Rainforest Restoration and Education Project in the Monteverde Cloud Forest of Costa Rica

Krista and her good friend Kassidy learned about the rainforest in elementary school. They decided to go door to door, without permission or a plan of where to donate, to collect money from neighbors. These two cute little girls with a big dream were successful in getting lots of contributions but when Kassidy's mom found out, she made them give the money back.

Fast forward to January 20th, 2021 ... Krista was in Costa Rica with her parents, spending time with her Costa Rican host brother on the beach to celebrate as an early college graduation gift. Krista was overcome by the water and met Jesus face to face that day.

At Krista's Celebration of Life the story of her desire to help the rainforest was mentioned as it was one of the fun memories brought up by friends and family throughout the years. The old poster was found in the basement, put out at the celebration and change was collected.

Krista's mom met Harry Rojas in an online real estate investing group. It turns out that Harry lived in Costa Rica, had an airbnb (which interested Krista's mom) AND Harry had a dream to restore the rainforest and provide a place not only for conservation but for the education of the next generation. And as an airbnb owner, he had a dream for people to discover the beauty of God's creation and the peace and joy that comes from getting away from the craziness of everyday life and soaking in the beauty.

God put together the perfect match! A place to "help the rainforest" in Krista's memory and a helper for Harry to see his vision come to life. Harry was touched by Krista's story and asked to name the entire project after her: Krista's Rainforest Sanctuary: A Conservation & Education Project.

One week before Krista's 22nd birthday, a facebook fundraiser was put up to collect more money for the rainforest project, as her birthday would fall on April 22 - Earth Day. How appropriate! In less than 24 hours the initial goal of $2,200 was met and, in the end, Krista’s friends and family contributed just over $5,500! We look forward to sharing the progression of this project over the coming weeks, months and years. You can donate to this ongoing project by clicking the link below.
